Let's get this party started!

Better late than never, right? I've thought about the idea of creating a blog off and on over the past 7 years. In the end, the reason to not hit "publish" came down to time: there just wasn't enough time in the day to do everything and this "thing" was the project that got de-prioritized.

What is The Mother Load?

the mother load / n / Parenting is a journey. Each phase of the journey presents us with a new set of challenges ("loads") through which we must navigate.

The purpose of the The Mother Load is to provide a safe space to share parenting ideas, questions, and concerns among a collection of open and positive-minded mothers.

About Me

• I'm a mother of two amazing girls, am married to my best friend who I met in college.

• I live in Washington, DC, hold an MBA, and have always worked, until this past week, in a full time capacity.

• I am passionate about spending time in the outdoors and you can often find me walking through the multitude of trails in Rock Creek Park. These walks have become essential, especially during COVID.

Why This, Why Now?

I now find myself entering a new phase of life. I made the decision to step back from the workforce a few weeks ago. It was a complicated decision and not an easy one for this type-A professional. This difficult and fraught decision was fueled by seeing the need and opportunity to lean in more with my family. In the end, the "ROI" of stepping back outweighed working full time, especially in this time of COVID.

I hope you'll join me on my journey as I take a look back at my parenting experiences and the challenges, as well as the joys, I faced and join me as I navigate my own "mother load" going forward. What's currently on my mind: how to dis-entangle the idea that my "worth" is tied directly to my professional career. Now, that's a doozy!

My vision is to eventually build this site into a community of supportive women who can lift each other up in whatever phase of parenting life she may be in. Let's get this party started!
